HMONG NEW YEAR
Every December sees one of the more festive and colourful festivals in Laos: the Hmong New year. The Hmong are the third largest ethnic group in Laos and their New Year showcases the fascinating culture and history of this ethnic tribe. During this celebration, the Hmong dress in traditional costumes and enjoy many forms of entertainment including food, dance, music, bull fights according to their customs. One of the most important rituals is that young, single men & women stand facing one another in two separate lines, tossing a cloth ball back and forth between the lines. It’s a kind of speed dating where they try to meet their future partner and get married after the New Year.
